Sometimes I wonder…

By

Sometimes I wonder at things…things I just don’t get. I used to wonder why people took photos of themselves standing next to celebrities. It seemed strange because I didn’t understand what people hoped to gain from standing next to a celebrity. Some things end up making sense to me, others still remain a mystery.

Hehe… wish I had something witty and clever to say, but the truth is, I don’t understand it either! However I have a feeling that when you and I are famous and it happens to us, we will be enlightened!

Enlightened indeed! And. yes, it’s just a matter of us becoming famous;) Shouldn’t be too much longer now…any minute in fact! Prepare for the paparazzi! xxn

It’s a form of self exaltation. Some people have a greater need for attention and one way they get it is by getting photographed with people who are better known than they are.

The photograph also portrays power, wealth, fame, or success by association. Using the photo of you shaking an ex-president’s hand is saying look at me and pay attention to me; I’m powerful because I’m friends with Bush or Clinton.

People also don’t realize that the photo can be bought either with social currency (charm) or real currency (money). The ex presidents are always engaged in speaking tours so it’s just a matter of buying a ticket to the event, attending and paying the fee for the photograph opportunity. Granted it may be expensive, but then there is social currency.
